The Nigeria Labour Congress has commended Governor Nasir Idris for approving the consequential salary adjustment and responsibility allowances for all primary school teachers in Kebbi.

The NLC chairman in Kebbi, Murtala Usman, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday. According to Mr Usman, in addition to the new salary structure, the governor also approved responsibility allowances for primary school teachers, which he described as historic in northern Nigeria.

He said, “Governor Idris has proven that he is indeed a teacher-friendly governor who is poised to revamp primary education, being the very foundation of basic education for all.

“At the union level, we shall continue to support every development effort of the Kebbi government as a way of encouraging him to do more for the entire state. We commend the governor for this kind gesture extended to primary school teachers.

“We equally rejoice with the teachers over the new salary structure and the responsibility allowances. There is no doubt, this will give teachers a new sense of belonging.”

The union leader added that while teachers were enjoying their new allowances, the union urged them to live aboveboard by justifying the increment through dedication to duty and professionalism.
