The Israeli military on Tuesday reported that settlers rioted overnight in the occupied West Bank village of Jalud, setting fire to Palestinian property.

The military added that over 100 rioters prevented a Palestinian family displaced by earlier settler violence from returning home.

The violence broke out as Israeli security forces sought to return the Tubasi family to its home, the military said in a statement. 

A social media notice circulated beforehand called on settlers to come to Jalud and oppose the family’s return.

The settlers blocked roads, set tyres on fire and hurled rocks at security forces, lightly wounding three border police officers, the military said.

The Tubasi family’s home and other structures, vehicles and property were set ablaze.

The military said two Israeli suspects were detained.

The Tubasi family left its home in July after repeated settler harassment and violence. Israel’s High Court had ordered the military and police to enable the family’s safe return and provide protection, but the military said Monday night’s violence prevented the operation from being completed.

Settler violence against Palestinians has surged across the occupied West Bank, with the United Nations (UN) recording more than 1,380 settler-related incidents in the first seven months of 2026.

UN monitors have also documented attacks in which Israeli forces accompanied settlers, participated in the violence or failed to intervene.
