The Nigerian Army has operationalised three new infantry battalions in Zamfara to strengthen security and improve its response to threats.

The newly activated units are the 12 Infantry Battalion in Bakura, 23 Infantry Battalion in Kaura Namoda and 28 Infantry Battalion in Anka.

The army disclosed this on Wednesday in a statement by the acting spokesman for 1 Brigade, Yusuf Mohammed.

Speaking during the ceremonies, the general officer commanding 8 Division and commander of Sector 2 Joint Task Force, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, B.P. Koughna, said the army remained committed to sustaining operations to protect residents.

He said lasting peace required coordinated efforts among the military, other security agencies, traditional institutions and communities and called on Zamfara residents to support security agencies by providing timely information.

Mr Koughna also charged newly deployed troops to maintain discipline, professionalism, and operational vigilance in line with their constitutional mandate and established Rules of Engagement.

The Emir of Bakura, Bello Sani, Emir of Anka, Attahiru Ahmad, and Emir of Kaura Namoda, Sanusi Asha, commended the army for establishing the battalions.

The traditional rulers described the deployment as a significant step towards restoring peace and security in their communities, pledging the support of traditional institutions through community mobilisation and information sharing with security agencies.
