A scrap seller, Wasiu Adeniji, and David Onyeka, on Wednesday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, over alleged stealing of wires and other items valued at N4.2 million.

The defendants, Adeniji, 28, and Onyeka, 41, were arraigned on a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen property.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

 The prosecutor, Inspector Kehinde Olarotimi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences between June and August 2026 at Agbeni, Ibadan.

Mr Olarotimi alleged that Adeniji stole cable wires valued at N1.72 million and an air conditioner valued at N2.2 million, belonging to Alternative Bank in Agbeni, Ibadan.

He alleged that Adeniji also stole provisions worth N350,000 belonging to Rukayat Ibrahim, adding that the items were removed from their respective locations without permission.

The prosecutor said the total value of the goods allegedly stolen was N4.2 million, adding that the defendants were arrested following investigations into the reported incidents in Ibadan.

He alleged that Onyeka received the stolen air conditioner from Adeniji, knowing that the item had been stolen, thereby participating in the alleged offence before the court.

He said the offences contravened Sections 516, 390(9) and 427 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000, which provide for conspiracy, stealing and receiving stolen property respectively.

The Magistrate, Adebola Adeola, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N2 million each, with two sureties each in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must meet the conditions prescribed by the court and adjourned the case until November 16 for hearing.
