Cletus Shurkuk, the works commissioner in Plateau, says Nigeria is a work in progress.

Mr Shurkuk, who made the plea in an interview on Friday in Jos, urged Nigerians to be patient with the process of governance, as nothing good came easy.

While speaking on the despair in the polity, particularly insecurity on the Plateau and the country at large, which was hampering economic progress, the commissioner charged citizens to exercise patience, saying governance was progressive and required time.

“Where we are today is not actually where we should have been or where we have wanted to be as both Nigeria and Plateau are works in progress. Nigeria is in a stage where we are now rebuilding what has been damaged and building anything usually takes a longer time than destroying it, which can just happen within the twinkle of an eye.

“We are calling on Plateau people and Nigerians to exercise patience with government, give the government all the necessary support, and pray for it. Let each and every member of the state and the nation contribute their own quota, because government alone will not be able to solve all the challenges that we are facing.

“We need everybody and all hands to be on deck: the government, the private sector, development partners and people of good will. Because each and every one of these groups has things to contribute towards the growth and the development of Plateau as well as Nigeria,” Mr Shurkuk noted.

While reassuring citizens of the government’s commitment to the development of Plateau and Nigeria, the commissioner reiterated that every good thing often had a price tag.

“A pregnant woman in labour is a classic description of Nigeria’s situation, which will soon end. Things are already difficult, but we know we are making progress, and at the end of it, everybody will have cause to smile.

“So let’s support the government, let’s pray for the government, let’s do our own part in our little offices and spaces, wherever we find ourselves, Nigeria will thrive again,” Mr Shurkuk said.
