NYSC appeals to Zamfara govt to upgrade orientation camp

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has appealed to the Zamfara Government to upgrade facilities at the temporary orientation camp in Gusau.
Muhammad Lawan, the NYSC coordinator in Zamfara, made the appeal in Gusau on Friday at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I corps members deployed to the state.
The state Teacher Training Centre of the Universal Basic Education is being used as the temporary orientation camp in the state.
Mr Lawan noted that there was an urgent need to upgrade the camp following the increase in the number of corps members deployed to the state.
“We seek urgent intervention from the state government; this is the right time to upgrade this camp for the NYSC programme.
“We respectfully appeal to your administration to consider providing the NYSC scheme with a larger and more suitable venue for hosting orientation course activities in the state capital.
“I think a bigger venue within the state capital will ease challenges during orientation exercises,” the coordinator said.
“With the increasing number of corps members being deployed to Zamfara, a bigger and more permanent orientation facility has become increasingly necessary,” he said.
Mr Lawan appreciated the state government for its numerous support and welfare packages for corps members, as well as other stakeholders for their contributions to the success of the camp.
Welcoming the corps members to the state, Governor Dauda Lawal urged them to consider the state as their second home.
The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Kashimu Kaura, encouraged the corps members to show commitment during the three-week orientation course.
“As corps members, you should approach your assignments with an open mind and a commitment to making positive contributions to the lives of the people in your host communities.
“The NYSC is an important platform for promoting national unity and integration,” he said, assuring the NYSC management in the state of the government’s continued support.
A total of 800 corps members deployed to the state took the oath of allegiance administered by the chief judge of the state, represented by Justice Bello Muhammad.
