Okpebholo’s SHINE Agenda transforming Edo education, says deputy governor
Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa says the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led administration is prioritising education and taking steps to improve teaching and learning.
Mr Idahosa said this while speaking at the 12th National Annual Dinner and Secondary School Auditorium Launch Appeal Fund organised by the Government College Ughelli Old Boys Association (GCUOBA) in Benin.
In a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Friday Aghedo, Mr Idahosa said the administration is using its SHINE Agenda to strengthen the education sector and provide a conducive environment for teaching and learning.
According to him, recruiting 5,000 teachers was one of the administration’s early interventions in the sector.
He said the recruitment was part of efforts to strengthen the education system and improve teaching quality in Edo.
“Education is a priority to the Edo State government,” Mr Idahosa said.
He added that the administration would continue to implement programmes to improve the sector and secure a better future for Edo children.
The deputy governor commended GCUOBA for its contribution to the development of Government College Ughelli.
According to him, its activities demonstrate the role alumni associations can play in supporting educational institutions.
Mr Idahosa said the school had produced notable personalities in various fields, attributing their achievements to the values of excellence, discipline and leadership instilled in its students.
The Edo deputy governor, however, urged other old students’ associations and stakeholders to emulate GCUOBA by investing in their alma mater and supporting educational development.
He said such partnerships would complement the government’s efforts to improve educational institutions.
