Gov Mutfwang condemns attacks on traders in Plateau

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has condemned an attack on traders returning from the Bukuru Kara livestock market.
Gunmen attacked the traders on Sunday, opening fire on a vehicle conveying them from the market.
In a statement on Monday, Joyce Ramnap, the state’s Commissioner for Information, said the governor described the attack as sad and unacceptable and urged security agencies to investigate the incident.
Mr Mutfwang condoled with families and victims of the incident, adding that security agencies are directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack, including the identities and motives of those responsible.
“The government therefore calls on communities, traders, pastoralists and other stakeholders to remain calm and resist attempts to escalate tensions or deepen divisions.
“There must be no room for reprisal attacks or the taking of the law into individual hands,” he said.
He stated that while security agencies continue their investigation, the state government is engaging relevant stakeholders to strengthen security along vulnerable routes and prevent further attacks.
The commissioner urged citizens to provide useful information to security authorities to assist the investigation.
