Teacher kills 17-year-old daughter over TV row

A 17-year-old girl, Arya Kadam, has reportedly been killed by her father, a school teacher, following an argument about watching television in Maharashtra’s Satara district, India.
Police said the teenager was struck on the head with a cricket bat on Saturday during an altercation with her younger siblings at their home.
According to the police account cited by NDTV, Ms Kadam punched her younger sister in the eye during the argument, prompting the father, Purushottam Kadam, to scold her.
The police said the teenager picked up a cricket bat and moved towards him while allegedly using abusive language.
Mr Kadam snatched the bat from her and struck her hard on the head, causing severe injuries that resulted in her death at the scene.
The police said the father remained beside his daughter’s body before informing his wife, Sheela, the following morning.
Investigators alleged that attempts were subsequently made to conceal evidence. Bloodstains on the floor were cleaned, the teenager’s T-shirt was washed several times, and the bloodstained cricket bat was thrown onto the roof.
Police said they later recovered the cricket bat from the roof.
Mr Kadam reportedly told police that he was troubled by his daughter’s behaviour and alleged that she had developed “bad addictions.”
Neighbours, however, described the young girl as friendly and affectionate.
Both Mr Kadam and his wife, Sheela, are teachers.
According to the police account cited by NDTV, the deceased had been receiving psychiatric treatment in Pune and taking prescribed medication.
Police also said there had been previous episodes of violence at the home, including an incident in May when Mr Kadam allegedly suffered a fractured arm.
The circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death and the family’s actions afterwards remain under investigation by Satara City Police.
