World leaders converge on Abuja to advance Africa’s green transition

World leaders, investors and innovators are to gather in Abuja from October 14 to 15 for the Africa Climate Forum to advance discussions on Africa’s green transition.
According to a statement issued by George Nwangwu, convener of ACF and director-general of the Global Centre for Law, Business and Economy, on Wednesday in Abuja.
The two-day event, scheduled to be held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre, he said, will convene representatives from government, business, financial institutions, and civil society to explore practical solutions for building a cleaner, fairer, and more resilient continent.
Now in its fourth edition, he said, the forum, organised by the GCLBE, has become a major platform for turning climate commitments into measurable action across Africa.
This year’s theme is ‘Implementing in Lockstep: Public-Private Action for Green Outcomes’.
Mr Nwangwu said that effective climate action requires governments, businesses and financial institutions to work together.
“Climate action requires more than ambition. It requires governments, businesses and financial institutions to move together,” Mr Nwangwu said.
He said the forum would provide an opportunity to strengthen existing partnerships, forge new collaborations and make commitments capable of delivering meaningful climate action.
“The two-day forum will examine private enterprise, carbon markets, energy access, natural gas, food security, climate adaptation, community-led action, human rights and the just transition. It will also explore the use of artificial intelligence, data and digital technologies to strengthen climate planning, implementation and delivery across Africa.
“The forum will also feature international and pan-African contributions from climate, sustainability and development experts participating physically and virtually,” he explained.
According to the convener, ACF Deal Room will provide a platform for climate project developers, green businesses, investors and financial institutions to connect and explore partnerships and funding opportunities.
“The programme will also feature a Pulitzer Centre side event on journalism, climate action and civic space engagement, focusing on climate accountability and affected communities. The Abuja forum follows climate conversations held in Accra earlier in 2026, which focused on climate partnerships, finance, just transition and public-private collaboration,” Mr Nwangwu said.
