Trump awards Elon Musk National Medal of Science; calls him modern-day Thomas Edison
President Donald Trump on Thursday conferred tech billionaire Elon Musk with the National Medal of Science, America’s highest honour for scientific and technological achievement.
Mr Trump presented Mr Musk and other American innovators at the Institute of Peace in Washington.
Lauding Mr Elon as a modern-day Thomas Edison, Mr Trump highlighted the impact of his innovations in different human endeavours.
“Elon is our modern-day Thomas Edison,” Mr Trump. “Through Neuralink, Elon is also restoring sight, speech, and motion to those who cannot see, talk, or move. And he turned SpaceX AI into one of the world’s leaders in superintelligence.”
Mr Trump added, “And, Elon, I want to congratulate you. You’re my friend in all of that, but you are a very, very special guy. Thank you very much, and congratulations, Elon.”
The American president also presented the medals to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, Google co-founder Sergey Brin and Advanced Micro Devices CEO Lisa Su at the same event.
Also awarded the National Medal of Technology and Innovation are Michael Dell, the founder and CEO of Dell Technologies, and Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft.
