We’ll make campaign difficult for ‘lunatic’ Amaechi in Rivers if he keeps insulting Tinubu’s supporters: Wike

Mr Wike also accused Mr Amaechi of failing to account for funds spent on projects during his tenure as governor of Rivers State.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has threatened to frustrate Rotimi Amaechi’s campaign in Rivers State if he continues to insult President Bola Tinubu’s supporters.

Mr Wike issued the threat while speaking with journalists after a meeting with FCT area council chairmen in Abuja.

He was reacting to remarks by Mr Amaechi, the vice-presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), who, in Edo on Thursday, said people who would vote for President Bola Tinubu are thieves and mad people.

“If he continues along this line, it will be difficult for him to campaign in Rivers State. We will make it difficult for him,” Mr Wike threatened. “You cannot sit down, call voters madmen and thieves, and expect to walk away free.”

Mr Wike stated that a lunatic can not preside over Nigeria, openly questioning Mr Amaechi’s mental stability.

“A lunatic cannot preside over the affairs of this country! A known armed robber cannot! He said those who want to vote for Tinubu are thieves. So, am I a thief? That’s what he’s saying,” Mr Wike said.

“But who can be a bigger thief than Amaechi? Ask him who has been his psychiatric doctor,” Mr Wike questioned.

The minister also accused Mr Amaechi of failing to account for funds spent on projects during his tenure as governor of Rivers State.

He cited the alleged $39 million payment for the Justice Karibi-Whyte Hospital, which he claimed was never built, as well as a $10 million fumigation contract awarded to a Cuban firm.

Mr Wike also criticised the N68 billion monorail project in Port Harcourt, which he said was abandoned, and questioned the handling of proceeds from the sale of the state’s gas turbines, which he put at $308 million.

He further alleged that Mr Amaechi had been indicted by a judicial panel of inquiry and lost an appeal at the Supreme Court.
