Court dismisses Sanwo-Olu’s paramour Aisha Achimugu’s N10 billion suit against EFCC

The judge ruled EFCC had no basis to restrain it from carrying out its statutory duties and dismissed her claim for damages, calling the suit “frivolous and brought in bad faith”.

The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has thrown out a N10 billion fundamental rights suit filed by Governor Babaji Sanwo-Olu’s paramour, Aisha Achimugu, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over a search of her residence and the seizure of her property.

Musa Liman, the judge, dismissed the suit on Monday, ruling that the anti-graft agency had the power to search Ms Achimugu’s residence after receiving intelligence about her alleged criminal activities.

Ms Achimugu, in the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/466/2026, challenged the EFCC’s search of her residence and seizure of her cars, jewellery and other items.

She also asked the court to award her N10 billion in damages over what she described as an “invasion of her privacy”.

However, the presiding judge ruled that there was no basis to restrain the EFCC from carrying out its statutory duties and dismissed her claim for damages.

The court described the suit as lacking merit, saying it was “frivolous and brought in bad faith”.

Emenike Mgbemele, EFCC’s counsel, who reacted to the decision, said the ruling was in the interest of justice, adding the suit was an attempt to waste the court’s time.

The development came months after the court granted the final forfeiture of property linked to Ms Achimugu to the federal government.

The EFCC announced that the managing director and chief executive officer of Felak Concept Group forfeited assets to the government, including “jewellery worth N4,645,170,294.9, 11 exotic cars worth N4,293,000,000, and $50,000 cash”.

The forfeiture came months after the same court ordered the final forfeiture of $13 million linked to Ms Achimugu’s Oceangate Engineering Oil & Gas Ltd.
