Police arrest Indian national for assaulting Nigerian drivers in Ibadan

The police command in Oyo state has arrested three suspects, including an Indian national who assaulted truck drivers at Karma Agric Feeds and Foods Limited, located at Kilometre 12, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ibadan.
In a statement on Tuesday, Ayanlade Olayinka, the command’s spokesman, said a viral video showed the suspects assaulting two truck drivers along the expressway.
Mr Olayinka stated that the suspects comprise two security operatives attached to the company and an Indian national.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the confrontation stemmed from a disagreement over the parking of a truck that had delivered goods to the company on Saturday. According to the truck owner, Akinpelu Sarafa, male, aged 47, the driver objected to a designated parking spot over concerns that it could damage the truck’s tyres,” the police said.
Mr Olayinka noted that the driver was reportedly compelled to park, and one of the tyres subsequently burst.
“The disagreement reportedly intensified when the driver requested a replacement tyre, but the company declined,” he said.
He noted that the driver allegedly used his truck to block the company’s entrance, triggering a physical confrontation involving the drivers, security operatives and an Indian national.
The two victims were identified as Ridwan Olajide, 34, and Taiwo Yinusa, 37.
According to him, the victims were taken to a hospital in the Academy area of Ibadan for medical attention, adding that the investigating police officer visited them at the hospital and obtained their statements as part of efforts to establish the facts of the incident.
The police said three suspects arrested included Olowu Oluwadamilare and Sodeke Olamide, both male security operatives attached to the company, and Harjit Singh, an Indian national, 46, associated with the company.
Mr Olayinka said that investigations were ongoing to establish their respective roles in the incident and determine the culpability of all parties involved.
He added that the case had been transferred to the Special Enquiry Bureau, Eleyele, Ibadan, for further investigation and necessary action under the law.
