Kaduna: Only three women among 33 candidates for Kaduna senatorial seats

Only three women are on the final list of 33 candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission for the three senatorial seats in Kaduna ahead of the 2027 elections.
The list signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony showed that each of the three senatorial districts has only one female candidate.
In Kaduna North senatorial district, Jennifer Agbaje of the Young Progressives Party is the only woman among the 12 candidates contesting the seat.
Also in Kaduna Central, Hafsat Badamasi of the Action Democratic Party is the only woman among the 13 candidates seeking election to the Senate.
Laura Yimi Lucas of the Social Democratic Party is the only woman among the eight candidates contesting the Kaduna South Senatorial District seat.
The three women constitute only 9.1 per cent of the 33 candidates listed for the state’s three senatorial districts.
Many observers lamented the sustained poor performance of women in seeking elective positions, particularly in the North, despite a series of mobilisations by stakeholders.
