Stop sending money to relatives at home; tell them to vote for competent leaders, Obi tells Nigerians abroad

Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress 2027 presidential candidate, has advised Nigerians in the diaspora not to send money to relatives at home, urging them to vote for competent and compassionate leaders.
“You have people begging for home at home; tell them no. Tell them ‘Get up and let us vote somebody who has proven competence’,” Mr Obi stated this at a town hall meeting with diaspora supporters in Manchester, United Kingdom, on Sunday.
The politician, who urged Nigerians to consider less corrupt candidates, boasted that no governor had saved money better than he did during his tenure as Anambra governor.
“I need you, and that’s why I am having lunch with you today, for you to say, ‘wait a minute, this man came, and what he is saying is the reality of our problem.'”
“I am not saying I am a saint. But at least I have saved something. I am not the only person who has been governor, and I am challenging them to tell me one governor who has saved 10 per cent of what I saved. And nobody have (sic),” he added.
The presidential candidate decried Nigeria’s situation, noting the country’s prevailing economic hardship resulted from bad leadership.
“So at least let’s start with this one who is maybe less corrupt. We are not saying he is not, but less. This is how a country changes. It changes by people saying, ‘Wait a minute, enough of this.’
“And we know what the problem is. It’s because of the money they are sharing that there are no schools or hospitals. Billions of money are missing,” Mr Obi added.
The politician urged Nigerians to vote right in 2027, adding that the forthcoming election is a critical moment for the country.
