#EndSARS: Police fire teargas at ADC, NDC governorship candidates, others at Lekki Toll Gate
The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday teargassed two politicians, journalists and other residents that converged on the Lekki Toll Gate to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the October 2020 #EndSARS.
The protesters in October 2020 condemned police brutality and demanded scrapping of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), a unit of the Nigeria Police Force.
Some of them were later killed by soldiers at the Toll Gate on night of October 20, 2020.
Politicians at the venue for the sixth remembrance were the Lagos governorship candidates of the African Democratic Congress, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour; and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Funso Doherty.
The event, organised by the Enough is Enough Movement, was disrupted by the police officers deployed to the venue.
They dispersed the participants and prevented them from laying wreaths at the Toll Gate.
The state spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Abimbola Adebisi, did not respond to calls by the Peoples Gazette seeking comment on the issue.
