The Ondo State police command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered two locally-made guns in separate operations in Akure.

The command’s spokesperson, Abayomi Jimoh, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday in Akure,

Mr Jimoh said the arrests were carried out on October 13 and October 19 by operatives of the ‘B’ Division Surveillance Patrol Team and Okuta Elerinla Division.

He said the first operation was carried out by the operatives on a stop-and-search duty along Idanre Road, Akure, which intercepted a 32-year-old suspect, Oliver Bamidele.

He stated, “During a search, one cut-to-size locally-made gun concealed in his possession was recovered. He was immediately taken into custody and reportedly admitted ownership of the weapon.”

Mr Jimoh, who said the second incident occurred on October 19 at about 9:45 a.m., explained that the operatives on patrol around Madam Do Good area of Oyemekun Road, Akure, intercepted two persons on a blue TVS motorcycle

According to him, one cut-to-size locally-made pistol was recovered, while one suspect, Levis Prince, 35, was arrested and the other fled.

He added, “Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for their vigilance and reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for armed robbery, and other criminal activities.

“The  CP assured residents of sustained intelligence-led policing, strategic patrols and stop-and-search operations across the state. Suspects and exhibits will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Akure, for further investigation.”
