Troops foil pipeline vandalism, nab suspect in Benue
Troops of Whirl Stroke have arrested a suspect for allegedly attempting to vandalise a pipeline at Gou community in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
A statement on Wednesday by the spokesman for the operation, Ahmad Zubairu, said the suspect was arrested on Tuesday during an intelligence-led operation.
He stated, “The troops, while conducting a fighting patrol, received information about the activities of suspected pipeline vandals in the community.”
Mr Zubairu stated that on arrival at the location, the suspected vandals fled, adding that an 18-year-old motorcycle rider, identified as Mr Aondoyima Agber, was arrested.
He said the arrested suspect attempted to transport a section of the pipeline.
According to him, the suspect remained in custody pending further directives, while troops continued to patrol the area to deter criminal activities, prevent further attacks on critical national infrastructure and disrupt the operations of armed bandits.
The Force Commander of JTF Operation Whirl Stroke and General Officer Commanding (GOC), 5 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their prompt response, describing it as a proactive measure to prevent the vandalism of critical national assets.
