Woman dies giving birth to twins after 12-year wait

A Qatari woman who had been trying to conceive for 12 years died after giving birth to twin boys, leaving the babies motherless and her husband a widower.
Marwa Ahmed Al Amin Bakhit, 36, passed on September 23 after a Caesarean section, delivering the children she had sought for more than a decade.
She had a hitch-free delivery for the first twin boy whom she saw and held in her hands, acknowledging her new status as a mother.
But she developed complications in the process of delivering the second child, which led to her demise.
Her husband, Othman Al Makki, said he could not fathom how his wife, who had seemed okay after birthing the first twin, was fighting for her life as doctors tried to revive her.
“I was in shock because just a short time earlier, she had been talking to me and was fine,” Mr Al Makki said.
Dubai Police took care of burial arrangements and paid to transfer her body from Ajman, where she died, to Dubai. The dead mother was a staff member of the Dubai Police Health Centre.
The police further offered Mr Al Makki and the deceased’s younger sister, Maha, employment to help the family navigate the financial gap created by the loss.
“They stood by us at a time when we desperately needed a kind word and a gesture that could ease our shock,” Mr Al Makki told Gulf News.
Dubai Police had built a relationship with Ms Bakhit dating back to the 1970s when her father, Sergeant Ahmed Al Amin Bakhit, joined the force.
He died in 1992, leaving his wife and three daughters without any support.
Dubai Police at the time offered his wife, Sumaya Mohammed, a job in 1993 to weather the financial constraints. She worked the job until she died in March 2016.
The police offered Ms Bakhit a job in May 2016 at the Dubai Police Health Centre, where she worked for more than a decade as an administrative staff member until her passing in September.
Dubai Police have extended another job offer to Ms Bakhit’s husband and her sister to cushion the loss of the family breadwinner.
