A yet-to-be-identified church has secured a moulded image of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ to a wall with heavy chains to prevent it from falling on priests and other ministers on the pulpit.

This was captured in a viral video on social media showing the church taking the extra precaution by securing the crucifix with chains.

In the video, a priest wearing a helmet was seen almost directly under the bound crucifix, blessing a sacrament on the altar, and was flanked on either side by two altar boys.

The safety measure, believed to have been taken by the unidentified church, followed the death of a priest in Ecuador, Patricio Alfredo Sánchez Molinari, on October 17, 2026.

The Ecuadorian priest died during a mass at a church in Guayaquil, after a large wooden crucifix behind the altar fell on his head to the ground.

The incident, captured on a livestream, showed members of the congregation crying and attempting to pull him from under the fallen crucifix.

It is yet to be ascertained if the binding of the crucifix with the heavy was done to avoid a repeat of the fatal incident.
