Enugu man apprehended for raping, robbing female PoS operators

The Enugu State police command has arrested a suspect, Ugbor Chika Paul, accused of robbing, raping and taking nude pictures of female Point-of-Sale operators to prevent them from reporting to his atrocities.
The state police spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement on Tuesday, said the 30-year-old suspect lured his female victims to bushes under the pretext of conducting transactions, before dispossessing them of their cash and sexually assaulting them.
Mr Ndukwe said, “The first victim, a 20-year-old POS operator at Akwata Market, Enugu, whose identity is withheld, was allegedly lured to a bush behind St. Peter’s Church, Coal Camp, at about 11:00 a.m. on 21 May 2026, where the suspect allegedly robbed and raped her, taking ₦600,000.
“The second victim, a 30-year-old POS operator at the same market, was allegedly lured to the same location at about 5:00 p.m. on 11 August 2026 and robbed of ₦120,00, after unsuccessful attempts to also rape her.
“The third victim, aged 21, was allegedly lured through Facebook by the suspect, posing as Franklin Umeh, to Old Park, Enugu, at about 11:30 a.m. on 4 October 2026, before being taken to a bush around Udi Siding.
“He allegedly raped and sexually assaulted her, recorded her nude, and robbed her of ₦100,000 and her phone. He subsequently threatened to circulate the video unless she paid ₦200,000 and allegedly used her phone to contact some of her WhatsApp contacts.”
Mr Ndukwe stated that operatives recovered from him a phone reportedly containing nude images and video clips of identified and unidentified victims.
Stating that investigations were ongoing, after which the suspect would be arraigned, Mr Ndukwe urged other victims to come forward and assist the investigation.
He also encouraged young women who experienced cyberstalking or sextortion to report to the police for appropriate action.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, vowed that the command remains commitment to protecting residents from sexual violence, robbery and other crimes.
Mr Giwa also urged the public, particularly women and business operators, to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
