Hackers hit U.S. Federal Election Commission website, disrupt e-filing system ahead of midterm elections

A week before the U.S. midterm elections, hackers attacked the country’s Federal Election Commission website, disrupting its electronic filing system.
Checks on Tuesday showed an alert on the FEC’s website that read, “FEC’s electronic filing system is currently offline: We apologise for the inconvenience, and we’re continuing to work to resolve the issue.”
For the past 18 hours, the U.S. FEC website has suffered an “electronic filing system outage” due to an attack by hackers.
“This incident affects e-filing (online web forms, electronic filing submission system, electronic filing vendor tools),” FEC said.
The U.S. midterm election is scheduled for November 3.
