Trump welcomes Flavio Bolsonaro after fleeing Brazil amid money laundering probe

Flavio Bolsonaro has fled Brazil to the U.S. amid a money laundering investigation after losing the presidential election on Sunday.
Mr Bolsonaro fled Brazil despite a Supreme Court ruling compelling him to submit his passports to Brazilian authorities to bar him from leaving the country amid the probe.
A serving senator and son of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, who was jailed for plotting a coup, has yet to accept the outcome of the 2026 election. Mr Bolsonaro arrived in Miami, America, and was received by his brother Eduardo, according to reports.
President Donald Trump on Wednesday said he approved of Mr Bolsonaro migrating to the U.S., adding that the embattled politician and his family are “fine people”.
Mr Trump also said, “The election was very strange, and I thought it was terrible. It’s gotten bad reviews. You look at what happened to their market. I think it’s so terrible to see it. I didn’t take sides, you know. I know them both.
“I know Lula. I know Flavio a little bit. I know the father very well. The father was treated really badly. I thought, but I wasn’t involved. That’s Brazil. It’s a different country.”
