Senate confirms seven nominees for FRC board

Senate has confirmed the appointment of seven nominees to the board of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.
The nominees were confirmed after the consideration of a report presented by the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Kamarudeen Olalere (Osun West) on Wednesday.
Abdullahi Saidu was confirmed as the chairman, while Mohammed Asmau, Mohammed Makama, Suleiman Gidado, Louis Ndukwe, Amaechi Ugwele and Olaniyi Onikola were approved as members of the commission’s board.
Mr Olalere noted that the committee examined the nominees’ curricula vitae, educational qualifications and professional experience before recommending them for confirmation.
He added that the committee had no hesitation in recommending the nominees for confirmation.
The development came after President Bola Tinubu wrote to the Senate last month, seeking the screening and confirmation of the nominees for appointment to key government institutions.
Mr Tinubu’s request was made in accordance with Section 5(3) of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007.
