The Nigerian Union South Africa (NUSA) has pledged to work more closely with Nigeria’s High Commissioner to South Africa, Femi Fani-Kayode, to promote the welfare of Nigerians living there.

This was noted in a statement by NUSA president Smart Nwobi, following a reception the union held in honour of Fani-Kayode. He explained that the ceremony was not intended for members to complain, but to partner with the mission.

Mr Nwobi said, “We do not come here only to present problems; we have come to reaffirm our commitment to partnership with the mission and to work more closely with you at every level with information, mobilisation and community-led coordination.

“To speak with one voice and conduct ourselves with dignity, support lawful engagement with South African authorities and help the Mission reach every Nigerian, wherever they are in the country.”

Mr Nwobi highlighted the challenges the Nigerian community faces and stressed the need for a unified, collaborative, solution-driven approach to tackling them.

He also stressed the need to deepen relations between the union, the mission, and the Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) to advance the welfare of Nigerians living there.

Mr Nwobi thanked the consul general, Ninikanwa-Okey Uche, for her sustained commitment to ensuring that the Nigerian community is kept informed on matters affecting their well-being.

According to him, Ms Ninikanwa-Okey helped to build a mutual relationship between the mission and Nigerians living in South Africa.
