Police apprehend suspect over alleged rape in Edo

The Edo State police command says it arrested a suspect identified as Adedeji Benjamin for alleged abduction, rape and armed robbery in Benin City.
In a statement on Thursday, the command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said the command received a report on Saturday at about 9:00 p.m. from a lady who reported that she was allegedly abducted by two men from Ihama and taken to Tembogha, where she was raped and robbed at gunpoint.
She stated that operatives of Aduwawa Division immediately swung into action, leading to the arrest of one of the suspects, Adedeji Benjamin.
“The toy gun used in the commission of the crime, and a Lexus Jeep were recovered as exhibits. The suspect has confessed to the crime and will be prosecuted in accordance with extant laws while efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing accomplice,” Ms Ikoedem said
She added that the state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious activities to the police.
