Sabastine Hon, the Social Democratic Party governorship candidate in Benue, says the party is fielding candidates for more than 95 per cent of elective positions in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.

Mr Hon, who disclosed this on Wednesday in Makurdi, said that the party’s candidates were jointly canvassing for votes for themselves and the governorship.

The governorship candidate said the SDP was prepared to contest the elections across the state, adding that its candidates would work together to secure victory.

“My party is also on the ground. We are fielding candidates for more than 95 per cent of the elective positions, and those people are also canvassing for their votes and canvassing for mine concurrently,” he said.

The candidate said he was not intimidated by the campaign structures and resources of the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.

He expressed confidence in his chances, citing his faith in God and the electorate’s ability to assess candidates based on their track records and commitment to good governance.

Mr Hon said Benue’s political history showed that candidates did not necessarily require enormous financial resources to win governorship elections.

He cited former governors from different professional backgrounds, including education, the clergy, and public service, saying their victories showed voters could choose candidates based on other considerations.

“I am not coming as a pauper. I may not be that rich, but I am rich in pedigree and integrity, by the special grace of God,” he said.

Mr Hon urged the electorate to support candidates genuinely committed to the development of the state.

The 2027 elections are expected to feature candidates from major political parties seeking elective positions at state and national levels.
