The police command in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, says it arrested eight suspects for alleged vandalism and recovered stolen street light poles within the city centre.

In a statement on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the suspects were arrested during an anti-crime patrol at about 3:00 a.m. on October 23.

Ms Adeh said the suspects include Sani Musa, Ashiru Adamu, Markus Joseph, Suleman Ibrahim, Jamilu Umar, Usman Aliyu, Uzairu Sani, and Shafiu Bala.

She said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects belonged to a criminal gang specialising in the vandalism and theft of public and private infrastructure across the FCT, particularly the Central Business District, Maitama, Wuse, Garki, and Asokoro districts.

“Following their arrest, five long streetlight poles, cut at their base and suspected to have been stolen, were recovered from them,” she noted.

She added that the exhibits and suspects remained in police custody and would be charged in court once investigations concluded.
