The Nigerian Army says it has restored its official X account, @HQNigerianArmy, following a report of unauthorised access on August 29, 2026.

The army said the account had been secured and administrative control fully reinstated, allowing it to resume regular updates on its activities, military operations and institutional developments.

In a statement on Sunday, Appolonia Anele, the acting spokesperson for the army, said the recovery underscored the army’s commitment to safeguarding its digital communication platforms.

“The successful recovery underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding its digital communication platforms, protecting the integrity of information and ensuring the continued use of credible and secure channels for public engagement.

“We appreciate the understanding, patience and support of Nigerians, members of the media and other stakeholders throughout the period the account was inaccessible,” she said.

Ms Anele said the army acknowledged the public’s cooperation in sustaining access to credible information through its alternative official communication platforms during the period.

She urged members of the public to reconnect with and follow the restored official X account, @HQNigerianArmy, for timely, authentic and verified information on Nigerian Army activities and developments.
