Lagos government seals church for noise pollution

Mr Wahab said the state government will not tolerate environmental violations that disrupt residents’ peace and well-being.

The Lagos State Ministry of Environment has shut down indefinitely the All Christians Gathering Ministry, Surulere, for alleged noise pollution, in violation of environmental regulations.

The Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab, said in a statement on X on Sunday that enforcement followed an investigation confirming the church’s noise pollution constituted a nuisance to residents.

Mr Tokunbo wrote, “Following a complaint by @BigDavery regarding noise pollution from a church, our officials conducted an investigation and confirmed that the church was in violation of environmental regulations and constituted a nuisance to residents in the area.

“Consequently, the church, The All Christians Gathering Ministry, located at No. 1, Ishola Street, off Clegg, Surulere, was sealed this morning and will remain shut until further notice.”

Mr Wahab said the state government will not tolerate environmental violations or any form of nuisance that disrupts the peace and well-being of residents.

Urging religious institutions, businesses, and other establishments to comply strictly with environmental regulations, he warned that enforcement actions will remain firm and decisive.

“No individual or institution is above the law,” the commissioner insisted.

The enforcement action was in response to an X user, @BigDavery, who, in a series of posts on Friday and Saturday, claimed that he went to complain to the pastor, who later “threatened that ‘God’ was going to take my life”.
