NPFL: Rangers Int’l FC beat Kwara Utd 1-0 in Awka

Rangers International Football Club of Enugu on Sunday defeated visiting Kwara United FC by a lone goal to secure the maximum three points on matchday 12 of ongoing Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The Flying Antelopes decided the game through Chimezie Izuchukwu who found the net 40 minutes into the encounter at the Awka Township Stadium, Awka.
The victory marks Enugu Rangers’ third consecutive win since they returned to the Anambra capital as their temporary home.
Kwara Utd came back in the second half looking for a leveler without success, and an effort by Jerry Alex was disallowed.
Speaking after the match, Alex said he entered the game to score against his former club and regretted that his goal was disallowed.
He described the match as a tough one but said he enjoyed playing against his former teammates.
“I do not know what really happened, I wish the goal stood because I came to score but that is football,” he said.
On his part, Coach of Rangers, Fidelis Ikechukwu, said the match was good for his side.
Ilechukwu said results from Awka were proof that Rangers were home away from home.
He appreciated the government and soccer enthusiasts in Anambra State for their support.
The coach also commended their opponents resilience but commended his players for rising up to the occasion.
