Buhari looks away as Nigerians mourn Obadiah Mailafia

More than 48 hours after his death, President Muhammadu Buhari has not sent a condolence message to the family of the late ex-CBN deputy governor Obadiah Mailafia.
But while many prominent Nigerians and groups have publicly condoled with the deceased’s family, Mr Buhari has yet to send his condolences.
Usually, the president sends condolences to a deceased’s family in press statements by his media aide, Femi Adesina. But as of the time of filing this report, findings by Peoples Gazette showed that Mr Buhari did not comment on Mr Mailafia’s death, who served the nation as a deputy governor of the CBN.
A source close to the family confirmed to The Gazette that the presidency did not send any messages of condolence.
Mr Adesina did not respond to The Gazette’s request seeking to know why Mr Buhari did not condole with Mr Mailafia’s family.
On Sunday, Mr Mailafia, a fierce critic of Mr Buhari’s regime, died at the age of 64 at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital.
In May, Mr Mailafia accused the Buhari regime of several attempts to have him silenced, following allegations he made on the insecurity ravaging Nigeria.
He claimed that while the State Security Service (SSS) interrogated him in August 2020, there were plans to have him stay over at the custody until the next day, to have him killed.
The president had also failed to send his condolences to Omoyele Sowore’s family, a strong critic of his regime and the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement whose brother, Olajide, was killed by herdsmen.
He was killed while journeying from Igbinedion University in Edo, where he was studying Pharmacy.
Even as top personalities like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Ben Murray Bruce, a former senator, and others expressed their condolences to Mr Sowore’s family, the presidency did not express similar sympathy.
