Civil society groups want more time to review new regulations for companies, NGOs
Global Rights and its associates have asked the Corporation Affairs Commission (CAC) to extend the deadline for submitting comments concerning the CAC’s draft Company Regulations 2020.
Global Rights is an international human rights organisation with a unit in Nigeria.
CAC previously asked civil society for feedback on its draft regulations and the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020, which President Buhari signed into law. Global Rights wants the deadline for submitting this feedback shifted back from November 13 to November 27.
The organisation says in a statement today, “Given the importance of the Regulations to the applicability of the Act, it is pertinent that stakeholders be given adequate time to properly review it…
“[The] one-week timeline for submission of comments is quite insufficient to get an aggregate of comments from stakeholders in the metropolis and especially the hinterlands, many of who just became aware of the release of the draft Regulations.”
Organisations such as CISLAC and EiE Nigeria co-signed the statement.
