U.S. Consulate opens ‘Window on America’ in Osogbo

The resource centre is designed to bring Americans and Nigerians closer together.

• October 5, 2021

The United States Consulate has opened a “Window on America” to serve as a community resource centre in Osogbo, Osun state.

Hosted at the Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, the ‘Window’ will serve as a centre for credible information about political, economic, cultural, educational, and social life in the United States and engage audiences in local communities.

Public affairs officer of the consulate, Stephen Ibelli, assures that exceptional programmes on principal topics of interest between the U.S. and Nigeria have been designed to bring “Americans and Nigerians closer together” during the course of this exercise.

“We are so excited today to launch the Window on American here in Osogbo, with its modern design, computer workstations, books, and perhaps most importantly, an open space for members of the community to host conversations of mutual interest.

“The new center exemplifies the U.S. government’s commitment to a core tenet of democracy: A citizen’s right to free access to information.” Mr. Ibeli said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony hosted at the university teaching hospital on October 5.

He said through the Osogbo Window on America the U.S. plans to provide employability and leadership training for young people, and offer information on study opportunities in the U.S.

Other benefits include, “showcase American culture and values, as well as foster closer people-to-people ties between the people of Nigeria and the United States”.

The Window on America project is currently operating in over 150 countries worldwide.
