Ex-Super Eagles spokesman Alaiya is dead

Former media officer to Nigeria’s national men’s football team, the Super Eagles, Benjamin Alaiya, is dead. 

The Super Eagles on Wednesday announced his demise on its Instagram page.

“We are sad to announce the sudden passing of our former Media Officer, Mr Benjamin Alaiya. May his soul Rest In Peace and our thoughts are with his family,” the post read.

Mr Alaiya was a native of Edo state and a graduate of the University of Lagos with a postgraduate diploma in journalism from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism.

He held the position of the Super Eagles’ media officer from 2011 to 2015, after which he left to establish his own sports newspaper, Sports Day Newspapers. He was also a former Sports Editor of Independent Newspapers Limited.
