Forgery: Court resumes hearing of APC’s disqualification suit against Obaseki
The certificate forgery case filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State started today at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court.
The case was initiated in July, where the plaintiff, the APC, sought for the setting aside of Obaseki’s nomination in the September election.
In June, the University of Ibadan confirmed that Mr. Obaseki graduated from the institution. Registrar Olubunmi Faluyi confirmed that Mr. Obaseki gained admission in 1976 and graduated in 1979 with a second class (lower) honours.
The APC legal team is made up of five senior lawyers and led by former attorney-general Akin Olujimi.
Justice Ahmed Mohammed had adjourned the matter to November 16 after Mr. Olujimi and an APC Edobor Williams, with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, joined in the suit marked FHC/B/CS/74/2020. Hearing is scheduled to also hold on November 18 for preliminary motions by all parties.
The plaintiffs are seeking disqualification of Mr. Obaseki over claims he supplied false information under oath to INEC in contravention of Section 31(5) and (6) of the Electoral Act, 2010.
Mr. Obaseki was returned as governor for a second term in the Edo gubernatorial election in September.
