Yobe airstrip project flagged off

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has flagged off the Wachakal Airstrip project in the Karasuwa local government area of Yobe.
Mr Lawan said the project was designed to expand the runway and upgrade other facilities at the airstrip to accommodate small and medium aircraft.
He said the remodelled airstrip would support the operations of security agencies and improve the state’s economic activities.
“The airstrip will provide an avenue for farmers and businesses to evacuate their products,” said Mr Lawan.
Governor Mai Mala Buni commended the federal government for the airstrip project, adding that it demonstrates the government’s commitment to developing the airstrip for the benefit of the people of the state.
Mr Buni said the airstrip would encourage agricultural productivity, promote businesses and commercial activities in the state.
“The airstrip will boost agricultural production and trade in commodities like rice, millet, sesame and livestock as local and international merchants may use it,” he said.
In his remarks, aviation minister Hadi Sirika said the project was part of Mr Buhari’s transformation agenda to enhance security and fast track the country’s social and economic development.
