China disappointed with EU lawmakers’ visit to Taiwan

China says it’s asked the EU not to send the wrong signals to “separatist forces advocating Taiwan’s independence”.

• November 4, 2021

China on Thursday condemned the visit by a delegation of European lawmakers to Taiwan, with a Foreign Ministry spokesperson saying that Beijing was “very dissatisfied”.

The spokesperson said that the European parliament should adhere to the “obligations” associated with the country’s “One China” policy.

“We have asked the EU to correct these mistakes and not send the wrong signals to the separatist forces advocating Taiwan’s independence,” the spokesperson added.

Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen on Wednesday received seven lawmakers from the European Parliament’s Special Committee on Foreign Interference in all Democratic Processes.
