#LekkiMassacre: UK Parliament demands international inquiry
The United Kingdom Parliament on Monday expressed reservations in the ability of the Lagos panel of inquiry to adequately investigate the military attack on protesters on October 20 in Lagos.
Citing the continuous denial by the Nigerian military and attempts by government officials to suppress the truth with threats and intimidations against media organisations and civil society groups, the British lawmakers called for the constitution of an independent International panel to investigate the shooting of unarmed protesters in Lekki.
At the debate of a public petition calling for sanctions against Nigerian government officials, the members said a panel made up of Human Rights Watch and other independent global human rights bodies should be set up.
Members also enjoined the British government to stand in solidarity with young Nigerians and defend their rights to life and protest.
