FIFA shortlists Mane, Sallah, C. Ronaldo, others for awards

This year’s award will be held virtually due to coronavirus.

FIFA on Wednesday shortlisted 11 footballers for this year’s FIFA Best Footballer Awards scheduled for December 17 at Zurich, Italy.

Two African players, Sadio Mane of Senegal and Mohammed Sallah of Egypt were shortlisted alongside Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal and Lionel Messi of Argentina for the awards.

Thiago Alcântara of Spain, Kevin De Bruyne of Belgium, Virgil van Dijk of Netherlands, Robert Lewandowski of Poland, Kylian Mbappé of France and Brazilian star Neymar are also on the list of players nominated for FIFA top awards.

Nominees for Best FIFA Women’s player include, Lucy Bronze of England, Delphine Cascarino of France, Caroline Graham Hansen of Norway, Pernille Harder of Denmark, Jennifer Hermoso of Spain, So-yun of Korea Republic, Sam Kerr of Australia, Saki Kumagai of Japan, Dzsenifer Marozsán of Germany, Vivianne Miedema of Netherlands, and Wendie Renard of France.

FIFA earlier announced that this year’s award will be held virtually due to coronavirus.
