EFCC raids newspaper office over alleged fraud
Detectives from the EFCC on Thursday raided the head office of an Abuja-based daily over what officials claimed was an ongoing corruption probe.
The Pilot Newspapers officers in Wuse Zone 5 were searched by anti-graft officials who have been investigating a case of alleged fraud against someone associated with the newspaper.
A November 24 letter from the EFCC notified the head of Pilot Newspapers of the investigation, saying the official Samson Shonubi should present himself for questioning.
It was unclear whether Mr. Shonubi complied with the directive, although the specific amount involved was not stated in the letter. The Gazette learnt that detectives were still laying siege to the paper’s office as of 6:00 p.m.
A spokesman for the EFCC did not immediately return a request seeking comments. A management official at Pilot Newspapers did not immediately return calls and messages seeking comments.
