Seven killed, children missing as gunmen return to Southern Kaduna
At least seven people were feared killed and four children missing after armed men attacked Jema’a Local Government Area in Southern Kaduna.
The attackers ambushed residents in Ungwan Bido village shortly before dawn on Sunday, two witnesses told Peoples Gazette. Many residents have fled the village following the attack.
“They entered the village on motorcycles and killed about seven people,” villager Bulus Gyang told the Gazette. “Children are also still missing and we could not yet say for sure whether they were abducted or not.”
A spokesman for the police in Kaduna did not immediately return a request seeking comments Sunday afternoon. Southern Kaduna has faced repeated attacks from armed men for several years, despite repeated promises by Governor Nasir El-Rufai to contain the mayhem.
It was unclear why the attackers struck on Sunday, a day after Nigerians were gripped by reports of Boko Haram attack on villagers in Borno, which left at least 43 farmers dead.
