The Oyo command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists and Nigerians in general to avoid attitudes that can lead to road traffic crashes and death.

Sector Commander Uche Chukwurah advised on Sunday during a church service in commemoration of the 2021 Africa Road Safety Day and World Day Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in Ibadan.

The celebration of the Day started on Monday with sensitisation of motorists in complying with road rules.

This included visits to motor parks and distribution of flyers, among others.

The celebration also witnessed a Jumat service on Friday and a church service on Sunday.

Mrs Chukwurah said that the celebration, which was a global event, was to remember those that lost their lives or sustained varying degrees of injuries on the road.

She said the lesson for motorists was for them to avoid anything that could lead to road traffic crashes and death.

The sector commander said that road crashes may not occur if everyone adheres to the rules and regulations while on the road.

“All Nigerians and motorists should have in their minds that their action and inaction can lead to road crashes, death and injury.

“That is why they should endeavour to obey traffic rules and regulations while on the road.

“We are using this avenue to tell all motorists to kill the speed before it kills them and avoid overloading, speeding, among others,” MrsChukwurah said.

She said that the corps aspired to have a situation where all road users obey rules and regulations on the road while driving.

In his sermon, Reverend David Olagbaju of the Cathedral of Saint James the Great, Oke-Bola, Ibadan, called on Nigerians to fear God in their deeds.

Mr Olagbaju later prayed for the victims of road traffic crashes and God’s protection of FRSC officials.
