Coach Abdul Maikaba of Rangers International FC of Enugu says his target is to win the trophy at the ongoing third edition of Ifeanyi Ekwueme, Teco/Select Pre-season Football Tournament.

Rangers reached the tournament’s semifinals after overcoming high-flying Ingas FC of Enugu 1-0 on Saturday.

Maikaba stated in Enugu on Tuesday that the club would do all in its power to retain the trophy it won in 2020.

“Since I came to Rangers FC, I made it clear to the players that we will fight for the top prize in any competition we are going into.

“Winning trophies has been the target I set for my team, and for Ekwueme pre-season football tournament, we are taking each game as it comes,” said the coach. “We have qualified from the group into the knockout stage to face a professional team, Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia, at the semifinals.”

He added, “Going by the statistics of the pre-season so far, we topped our group with 10 points with superiors goals over other teams.”

Maikaba added that his team outscored all the teams in the tournament, hoping his players would keep scoring in other games.

“I think we have every chance to win the game against Abia Warriors and progress to the final,” said the Rangers coach. “The match must produce a winner, and I hope we are going to win because we have prepared well for it.”
