Chiemeka Arinze, one of the co-defendants in the kidnap case of Vincent Obianodo, the chairman of the Young Shall Grow Motors, has died in prison custody.

Mr Arinze died at the age of 45. According to his death certificate, he passed away at 9:08 p.m. on November 26 due to cardiac arrest.

The document, issued by Ajeromi General Hospital, Ajegunle and signed by Dr B.E. Salisu, indicated he also had complicated advanced HIV.

Officials of the prison who spoke on the condition of anonymity said Mr Arinze was rushed from the hospital of the Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre to the general hospital on Friday, where he died.

As of the time of filing this report, the deceased’s counsel, Ogedi Ogu, was in court for the hearing of the kidnapping case.

He disclosed that he would inform the court of Mr Arinze’s demise and apply to withdraw from the case.

Mr Arinze was charged alongside Evans, Joseph Emeka, and Udeme Upong.

They were charged with murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, attempt to kidnap, and sale and transfer of firearms.
