Pope Francis speaks on slain rice farmers

Pope Francis on Wednesday reacted to the killing of farmers at Borno State during the weekend, praying for Nigeria, the slain farmers and their families.
Over the weekend, Boko Haram terrorists attacked Borno, killing over 43 farmers near Zabarmari, about 20 kilometres from Maiduguri.
“I want to assure my prayers for #Nigeria, Pope Francis said on Twitter. Last Saturday more than one hundred farmers were brutally killed. May God welcome them in His peace and comfort their families, and convert the hearts of those who commit similar atrocities which gravely offend His name.”
Contrary to earlier reports, Boko Haram on Tuesday, took responsibility for the massive killings at Zabarnari, saying its militias killed a total of 78 farmers who were working on their rice fields.
This comes amidst increasing kidnapping and banditry in the country, the president Muhammadu Buhari government has continued to claim that Boko Haram has been “degraded.”
