Governor Abubakar Bello’s government has finally paid a debt of N400 million to the National Examination Council (NECO).

The money covered the debt for the 2019/2020 session and part payment for the 2021 NECO examination.

Hannatu Salihu, the Commissioner of Education, disclosed this during the screening of the 2022 budget proposal of the ministry by the House Committee on Education in Minna on Monday.

She disclosed that the lawmakers appropriated about N8 billion for the basic and secondary education subsector.

Ms Salihu explained that in terms of overall performance, the ministry was able to access about N3.1 billion representing 38 per cent of the budgetary provision as of November 2021.

The commissioner also noted that the ministry had difficulties accessing funds to execute planned projects and other government operations.

Ms Salihu, however, disclosed that about N5.107 billion had been proposed as the 2022 budget for the ministry.
