FG declares December 27-28, January 3 as public holidays
The federal government has declared December 27-28, 2021 and January 3, 2022, as public holidays to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.
Interior minister Rauf Aregbesola announced this on Wednesday in a statement signed by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Shuaib Belgore.
While admonishing Christians to imitate Jesus Christ, Mr Aregbesola also asked them to pray against insecurity, a major problem bedevilling Nigeria.
The interior minister further charged Nigerians to celebrate the holidays responsibly by complying with all stipulated COVID-19 protocols.
“This calls for deliberate responsibility and discipline on the part of all,” said the statement. “Moderately celebrate the festival without large groupings and observe all the protocols stipulated by medical authorities. Take it as a point of personal responsibility to prevent the spread of the virus.”
Mr Aregbesola urged Nigerians to remain focused, assuring them that 2022 will be a better year for all.
