Modupe Alakija, husband of billionaire business woman, Folorunso Alakija, has explained the altercation that occured between him and another member of the Ikoyi club leading to his suspension.

In a letter Mr Alakija wrote to the secretary of the club and seen by Peoples Gazette, he claimed to have attacked the co-clubber because he “rudely and arrogantly” approached him to wear his nose mask in accordance with COVID-19 precautionary measures.

“The complainant without knowing the subject of debate and without showing any form of decorum, with all arrogance, rudely and crudely shouted at me to put on my mask,” Mr Alakija said.

Mr Alakija explained that the Indian went ahead to take his pictures with cameras without his permission and given his fears that kidnappers might abduct him, he “on his refusal to delete the photos as I demanded,” decided to hold on to his shirt “in order to stop him from absconding and taking my pictures away with him.”

He also disclosed that he has begun proceedings against the co-clubber who took his pictures for violating his constitutional right.

Mr Alakija was suspended in a circular signed by Bamidele Ibironke, the Honorary Secretary of Ikoyi Club.

“The above-named member of the Club is hereby placed on a one year suspension from the Club for physically assaulting and abusing a fellow member, conduct injurious to the interest of the Club, thereby violating Rule 9(C) of the Club’s Rule Book.

“This suspension takes effect from December 1″, 2021 to November 30 2022,” the circular read.
